5 weekend events in and around Vancouver June 19-21

It's looking like it will be another beautiful sunny weekend here in Metro Vancouver.  Whether you want to take a small excursion out of town, stroll through a troll forest or find a fun activity for Father's Day, we've got you covered.

Here are On the Coast's top five picks for weekend events in and around Vancouver.

1. Scandinavian Midsummer Festival

This two-day festival has a variety of activities that will satisfy every member of the family including carnival games, a vintage Volvo car show and even a troll forest! 

Make sure you bring your appetite for the salmon barbecue, Swedish meatballs and open-faced Danish sandwiches.

When: June 20 to 21

2. Tour des Îles 

This weekend is your chance to island hop the Southern Gulf Islands for free on special boats organized by the island communities.

Salt Spring, Galiano, Mayne, Saturna and Pender islands will be hosting events all weekend that include live music, art displays and a golf tournament. If you are worried about the crowds, you can make reservations online.

3. Downtown Summer Night Market 

The night market returns to the Plaza of Nations this Saturday, featuring a new summer concert series, lots of food trucks and a craft beer garden.

The market will be open every Saturday throughout the summer from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. PT.

4. Surrey Museum Ice Cream Afternoon  

The Surrey Museum will be hosting a refreshing event on Saturday afternoon with the Mr. Cool Ice-Cream truck dishing out flavours such as Canadian maple, Chinese sesame and Indian Kulfi.

Chill out with some ice cream themed crafts and activities or go on a scavenger hunt through the museum's Fraser Valley Lego exhibition.

5. Family Fishing Day 

What better way to celebrate Father's Day than to head out to the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve for a day of fishing? You don't need need a fishing licence to take part and there will be prizes handed out throughout the day.
