Canada's drummer boy Ethan Scott takes part in Battle of Waterloo bicentennial

A 12-year-old Toronto boy is among the 5,000 people taking part in a re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo this weekend in Belgium.

Ethan Scott plays a drummer boy with the Scottish 49th Regiment.

"It is overwhelming," Scott told CBC News. "It's hard to express the feeling of being around so many soldier re-enactors. It's really amazing. I'm 12. I'm the youngest drummer in my corps. I'm one of the younger people in the whole thing."

Two hundred years ago, a British-led alliance fought Napoleon's French army in a field in what's now Belgium. Napoleon's loss was a pivotal moment in European history.

You can listen to CBC News Network's interview with Scott here, and check out photos of the event taken by his father, Greg Scott.
