Keegan Kelly says people depend on their cars too much and it's unhealthy for drivers and the environment.
Next week, he will try to walk 160 kilometres in five days, all the way to Sussex, where he will visit his grandmother.
"Just to get people to use their cars less and walk more," said Kelly.
For the past few months, the Fredericton boy has been avoiding getting into a car, unless he absolutely has to.
"Because I don't want to leave this generation's mess for the next one," said Kelly.
His mother, Jennifer Dickison, says that she will be accompanying Kelly during his walk.
"I guess he never really asked me. He just said he wanted to do it and I felt like, 'It was a really great thing for him to be willing to do.' And as his mother, I feel protective of him so I obviously wasn't going to let him do it by himself," she said.
Kelly requested that any media personnel who wanted to interview him would have to walk to meet with him, a 10-kilometre trek round trip. However, he did agree to meet the CBC reporter halfway.Suggest a correction
