Skeetchestn Indian Band's welcoming sign cut down

The chief of the Skeetchestn Indian Band, just west of Kamloops, B.C., says vandals have cut down a welcoming sign for the community.

Yesterday on National Aboriginal Day, people with the First Nation noticed the sign lying on the ground next to Highway 1.

"It's unfortunate. It's sad. It's tragic, especially in this time of, you know when Canada is calling for reconciliation with us, and yet we experience this kind of treatment," said Ron Ignace, the chief of the Skeetchestn.

Ignace said Kamloops RCMP is investigating and asking anyone with information to call. He is also offering a $500 reward for tips leading to a conviction.
