CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador is spending $880,000 to upgrade sports facilities for the 2016 Canada Games.

Conception Bay South is hosting the summer games and the money is being spent on new lighting for ball fields and to buy a score clock and timing equipment.

The province has already spent $60,000 to refurbish four tennis courts and build new beach volleyball courts.

Premier Paul Davis says the improvements to sports and recreational facilities in the town will serve its residents for many years to come.

The province has also spent more than $13 million towards a new $21-million arena in Conception Bay South that is expected to be completed later this year.
