Two teenagers are dead and another three people were injured after a head-on crash involving three vehicles Friday night northeast of Gatineau, Que.

It happened on Highway 315, near Chénéville in Petite Nation, just after 10:30 p.m., according to Sûreté du Québec police.

Investigators believe a car was attempting to pass another vehicle when the crash happened.

The driver of the car changed lanes to pass but saw another vehicle in the oncoming lane, said police spokesperson Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.

The driver of the car tried to return to the first lane and clipped the vehicle it had been trying to pass.

That vehicle then spun out of control into the oncoming lane, Bilodeau said.

The victims are an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. Their identities have not been released and the investigation continues.
