CALGARY - A man accused in the death of a Calgary woman who hasn't been seen since March has made his first court appearance.

Kevin Rubletz is charged with the second-degree murder of 24-year-old Jessica Rae Newman.

The two dated for three years and had a son.

It will take 30 to 40 days for the Crown to provide the defence with disclosure.

Defence lawyer Brandon Miller says they'll be back in court on July 10.

Rubletz was arrested on Friday and charged on Saturday.

“Mr. Rubletz has been denied legal aid, so we will be making a very quick application for ... state-funded counsel, and moving this matter as quickly as possible to get a bail hearing,” he said.

Rubletz was arrested on Friday and charged on Saturday.
