Firefighters in Laval are trying to cool down a transformer that exploded at Hydro-Québec's Duvernay station in the city's St-François area.

The explosion happened in the early-morning hours of Tuesday. About a dozen firefighters are on the scene.

Quebec's Urgence-Environnement said in a news release that it sent a mobile lab to the area and that members of its staff will be on site to ensure the safety of nearby workers and residents.

There are no major power outages reported.
