Saskatchewan Wildfire Turns Highway 969 Into Raging Inferno

Abandon all hope of passing, ye who drive here.

Abandon all hope, ye who dream of passing here.

The trees flanking Saskatchewan's Highway 969 go up in flames in a dramatic Facebook video posted Sunday, showing the force of the province's wildfires .

This is highway 969. It is no longer passable. Angel (the one who is driving) is ok. It was two fires but is probably joined as one now. My friend who took this is a very humble man who does not want the notoriety that goes with this amazing of a video. He wanted it posted to warn people.

The driver was fine, but the highway is "no longer passable" after two fires probably merged into one, said Michelle Hopper, the user who posted the video.

Over 100 fires were burning in the Prairie province as of Tuesday morning amid hot and dry conditions.

The provincial government is recommending against any non-essential travel to the northern La Ronge area, and has issued a ban on all fires in its forests and provincial parks.

Several communities, including Montreal Lake, English Bay, Sucker River, and Wadin Bay, are under evacuation.

Meanwhile, air quality in Saskatoon and Prince Albert was rated as "very high risk" on Monday.

Saskatchewan has seen 510 wildfires so far this season, compared to 186 last year.
