Delta, Port Moody, West Vancouver ban barbecues, campfires in parks

Three Lower Mainland municipalities have now issued an extreme fire rating in their jurisdictions banning campfires and barbecues in local parks.

Delta and Port Moody join West Vancouver, which became the first municipality to assess its fire risk as extreme on Wednesday.

It means barbecues and campfires, within the three municipalities, are banned in local parks.

The ban is in effect for all local parks, except the Metro Vancouver-controlled fire pits on Deas Island Park and Boundary Bay.

Smoking is also prohibited in Delta parks.
