First, lightning struck, then sprinter Andre De Grasse lit up the track.

The Markham, Ont., athlete bested Aaron Brown, his biggest challenger at the Canadian track and field championships in Edmonton, to win the men's 100 metres in a time of 9.95 seconds. Brown followed in 10.13 and Justyn Warner was third in 10.16.

Shortly after De Grasse' performance, which came three weeks after a wind-aided 9.75 showing at the NCAA championships, action in Edmonton was halted due to a lightning delay.

The 20-year-old De Grasse will compete in the 100 and 200 at the Pan Am Games in Toronto later this month.
