Legislature member to run for federal Tories in Newfoundland and Labrador

GANDER, N.L. - A member of Newfoundland and Labrador's legislature has resigned so that he can run as a Conservative candidate in the next federal election.

After 11 years in provincial politics, Kevin O'Brien will run against incumbent Liberal MP Scott Simms in the riding of Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame.

O'Brien has served as parliamentary assistant to the premier and held a number of senior roles in cabinet.

O'Brien represented the riding of Gander in the legislature.
