A Tim Hortons employee stole over $200,000 from a Burlington franchise between January 2014 and May 2015, Halton police said.

The employee, a Hamilton woman, was responsible for the Tim Hortons' bank deposits.

When owners attempted to complete the year-end financial statement and tax reports for the company on June 15, they learned there was an extensive amount of deposits that remained outstanding, police said.

The employee was arrested on June 30 and is charged with theft over $5,000. She is scheduled to attend court on July 29.
