Victoria Taxi Crash Kills Driver, Injures Passengers

The cab veered off the road and into a pole, reports say.

A taxi driver is dead and three men are in hospital after an early-morning crash in Victoria, B.C.

The cab veered off the road and drove into a pole on Gorge Road just after 2:30 am, killing the driver, reports Times Colonist.

Two passengers were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while another is in stable condition, police said in a news release.

It is believed that the third man was the only one with a seatbelt on, according to Global News.

Victoria Police Sgt. Glenn Vermette told CBC News that speed may have been a factor. He added that investigators will be looking at dashcam footage to see what happened inside the car leading up to the crash.

The intersection was closed as police investigated, but has since re-opened.
