Two bodies were found dead and two Niagara Regional Police officers were injured after an incident at a Lincoln, Ont., home that was also the scene of a fire.

Details are scarce, but Niagara police say two officers from the Grimsby detachment were called to the home on Epp Street at 8:35 p.m. ET Sunday.

According to a police release, there was an "interaction" with an officer and a person inside the home, and both officers were injured.

Niagara police didn't say if anyone else was injured as a result of the interaction, how many people were inside the home or how the officers were injured. But one officer was airlifted to hospital and the other was treated locally.

The identities of the two people found dead were not released. Police also didn't say how or when they died.

They also said that a fire started inside the residence, but there was no word on how it started, or if it was the cause of either death or any injuries.

The provincial Special Investigations Unit is now involved. The SIU is called when police are involved in a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

The SIU could not immediately be reached for comment.
