EDMONTON - The president of the Alberta Federation of Labour has decided to try out his hand at federal politics.

Gil McGowan has issued a release saying he will announce plans to seek the NDP nomination for Edmonton-Centre in the next federal election.

McGowan says he has dedicated himself to defending the rights of working people in Alberta, fighting for good jobs, for public health care and for secure retirements.

He says he hopes to further his work as part of a federal NDP government.
