Young boy badly hurt by falling tree in Banff National Park

CALGARY - A young boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a falling tree in Banff National Park.

Fatima Kawaja with Stars air ambulance says a crew was called to the scene in Johnston Canyon on Thursday afternoon.

She says the air ambulance took the boy to Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary.

The trail the boy was on has been closed until further notice.

The RCMP and park officials are trying to determine why the tree collapsed.
