Lecent Ross shooting death: community gathers to mourn teen's death

A community in north-west Toronto gathered Saturday afternoon for a barbecue in honour of Lecent Ross, who was fatally shot at a house on Jamestown Crescent Thursday.

The community gathered on Jamestown Crescent. Many people have put up cards, flowers and posters in memory of the 14-year-old,

A pastor in the community, Keaton Austin from the Abundant Life Assembly, said Ross was outgoing and friendly.

"We miss her a lot," he said. "Right now I just want the violence to be stopped in the community because there's the loss of a young sister, a young person."

"[It's] senseless gun violence. She didn't deserve what happened to her," Austin added.

Police said Ross was shot with an illegal semi-automatic weapon. They added that her death was preventable and have called it suspicious.
