Cows cause $1,000 damage to BMW in western Quebec

Police are still searching for four cows who caused $1,000 damage to a BMW in western Quebec last week.

MRC des Collines police said a resident on Chemin St-Joseph in Val-des-Monts woke up around 6 a.m. on July 9 to four cows in his driveway.

The cattle had surrounded his wife's BMW and caused damage estimated at $1,000, police added.

Damage to car's paint job, mirrors

"They're big animals," said MRC des Collines spokesperson Martin Fournel.

"What we know about the event is that they were rubbing on the [car's] paint. The paint was damaged, and they broke one mirror."

When officers arrived to deal with the cows, the suspects had already fled.

The same cows were later seen wandering on a public roadway, said Fournel. As of Monday afternoon police had not yet located the animals' owner, he added.

Police believe there is no threat to the public. The public, meanwhile, had a little fun with this story.

Fournel said MRC des Collines officers have had to respond to reports of damage from large animals before.

"If it's not cows, it's horses. Another time, it was a llama," he said. "Our officers are used to [dealing] with that kind of event."
