QUEBEC - A Quebec City man was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of an 82-year-old French tourist.

Sylvain Fournier, 41, is also charged with attempted murder in an alleged attack on the man's 76-year-old wife.

The two were found lying on the ground and were taken to hospital after the altercation at an apartment building Sunday night.

Fournier faces two charges of uttering death threats.

The woman was listed in stable condition in hospital on Monday afternoon.

Fournier is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
