Searchers have spent several hours scouring an area near La Ronge, in Saskatchewan's north, looking for a soldier who went missing Monday afternoon.

An official with the Canadian Forces confirmed to CBC News that a member of their Immediate Response Unit (West) was noted missing after taking a break from routine fire line operations in the vicinity of La Ronge.

Other members of the unit immediately began a search.

The official was not immediately able to provide additional information.

Northern Saskatchewan has been challenged with serious wildfires for several weeks, leading to evacuations of several communities and a massive firefighting effort.
