The man, believed to be 25 to 30 years old, approached a vulnerable person in mid-May. Police say he told the person he was from out of town, had no access to his bank account and wanted to trade his cheque for cash.
The two went to a bank near College Street and Spadina Avenue where the vulnerable person withdrew and handed cash to the man in exchange for the cheque, which ended up being fake, police say.
Authorities have released surveillance footage showing the man with a medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt with "Hard Rock Café" printed on the back along with light blue denim jeans.
