Rescue underway to clean ducks covered in oil in Etobicoke

Ducks covered in oil have been discovered around Mimico Creek on Tuesday.

The Toronto Wildlife Centre dispatched officers to clean the ducks, who are covered in the sticky black substance which makes the birds appear black.

The substance is a mineral oil which escaped into the creek from a vehicle collision on Monday night.

The oil is not toxic, but damages the feathers of birds, according to wildlife rescue workers.

The ducks were first spotted outside the creek near the intersection of Martin Grove Road and Rathburn Road.
