ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador government says it has hired a full-time review commissioner for its Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Review Division to help address a backlog of cases.

The province says Christopher Pike will work with the chief review commissioner to review cases in a more timely manner.

The government says the new review commissioner will allow the division to expand its current monthly hearing schedule.

It says it expects to clear up the existing caseload backlog by the end of this fiscal year.

The division is a quasi-judicial body that considers appeals arising from decisions of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission.
