Police on Vancouver Island arrested a man on Sunday after two high-speed chases and reports that he had pointed a shotgun at another driver in a road-rage incident.

West Shore RCMP say they received multiple reports of an aggressive driver who was possibly under the influence of drugs Sunday afternoon. They also received a call claiming the suspect pointed a shotgun at another driver.

The suspect, who is in his mid-20s, fled from police at speeds of up to 140 km/h when officers tried to intercept him on the Trans-Canada Highway.

He surrendered to police when he became caught in traffic on the Island Highway near Wale Road in Colwood.

Police say they recovered a shotgun and a large knife in the suspect's vehicle, a brown Chevrolet minivan.

The suspect is also alleged to have backed into another vehicle on purpose several times, injuring the driver inside. The driver was treated for whiplash and released from the hospital.

Police say the suspect is known to them and has no fixed address. He is facing multiple firearms, driving, breach, drug and other criminal-related charges.
