Canadian men move on to beach volleyball knockout round

Canada's men's beach volleyball team advanced to the quarter-final round with a straight-set victory over Uruguay on Thursday night that completed a perfect round robin.

The pair, from Richmond Hill, Ont., got off to strong start with an ace from Sam Schachter to start the match.

The 25-year-old and his veteran teammate Josh Binstock kept the momentum going with a 21-12 first set win.

Uruguay's Renzo Cairus and Mauricio Vieyto attempted to steal the second set, but the top-seeded Canadians came back for a 21-19 victory to conclude the match and complete a perfect 3-0 run through the round robin.

Canada's men's and women's duos will start the knockout round on Saturday (the women also went undefeated to win their pool).

Game times and opponents are yet to be determined.
