Vancouver to allow one-day patios for city businesses on BC Day

The city of Vancouver will allow restaurants and businesses to place temporary patios on the sidewalk for the B.C. Day holiday on August 3.

The city has declared the holiday "Patio Day," a celebration of local food and culture.

Under the exemption, if there isn't enough space on the sidewalk, an owner may use space in a parking stall in front of an establishment. Each business may submit one application.

Unlicensed establishments are permitted to apply for a one-day licence to serve alcohol on patios.
