"My sexuality is not a phase. I am who I am."
That was Cara Delevingne's response to recent controversy surrounding her cover story in the July 2015 issue of Vogue.
The 22-year-old British model and actress got candid with writer Rob Haskell for the article, opening up about her bisexuality and her relationship with musician Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent). However, members and supporters of the LGBT community took issue with the way Haskell depicted Delevingne's relationships with women, accusing him of suggesting that her bisexuality is just a phase.
They took to Care2 to write up a petition titled, "Tell Vogue Magazine: "Being LGBT Isn't A Phase!" urging Vogue to issue an apology for the story. More than 21,000 people have signed the petition, which is directed at the glossy's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
Delevingne responded to the upheaval in a recent interview with The New York Times. The "Paper Towns" actress told the paper that she "found the protest flattering," but saw "nothing malicious" in the Vogue article.
Vogue has yet to comment on the controversy.
