Summer Makeup Tips: How To Cover Up A Sunburn

A bright red burn on your face can be embarrassing. Here's how to cover it up.

Even when we take the proper precautions to protect our skin from the sun, sometimes we still end up with a nasty burn.

And if you've had a burn on your face before, you probably know how difficult it can be to cover up that redness. Fortunately, Kirbie Johnson from PopSugar has some simple solutions for reducing the appearance of a sunburn in the video above.

She suggests starting with a calming moisturizer to reduce irritation, such as one containing aloe vera. And when it comes to covering up, Johnson recommends using a mineral foundation that will be gentler on your skin.

Another solution that isn't mentioned in the video, is to apply a foundation primer that is tinted green, which helps to correct redness. Try Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer by Smashbox ($49).

And while you may want to avoid blush for a while, applying a matte bronzer will help mask the appearance of your burn. But be sure to avoid brozers with pink undertones or ones that have a shimmer or sparkle, as this will accentuate your burn, too. Try Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer by Tarte.

Finally, play up your eyes with eyeshadows, liner and volumizing mascara, to draw attention away from your burn.

Watch the video above to see what other tips Johnson has for covering up sunburns. And if you have tips of your own, share them with us in the comments.
