Andre De Grasse advances to 100m semifinals

Canada's newest sprint sensation Andre De Grasse easily advanced to the Pan Am Games semifinals in the 100 metres on Tuesday.

De Grasse, from Markham, Ont., crossed the line first in 10.06 seconds.

The recent NCAA champion in both the 100m and 200m got off to a slow start but gradually caught the field before winning the heat.

Things didn't go as well for Brampton, Ont., native Gavin Smellie, who was disqualified in Heat 2 after a false start.
