Montreal police are asking an "important witness" to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian earlier this month to come forward.

A 64-year-old woman was walking along Henri-Bourassa Boulevard near Armand-Lavergne Avenue around 9:35 p.m. on July 4 when she was struck by a black mini van. A second vehicle then struck the woman.

The driver of the first vehicle stayed briefly at the scene, spoke to a witness, and then left, Montreal police said.

The driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead on site. The owner of the mini van later came forward, but police said no charges have been laid.

Investigators say they want to speak to the witness who was at the scene that night and spoke to the driver of the mini van to help determine the circumstances of the crash.

They have no description of the witness.

Anyone with information can call Info-Crime Montréal at 514 393-1133.
