A man who was killed in a shooting involving police in downtown Toronto was reportedly wanted in a double murder.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit said that a 21-year-old man was shot during an "interaction'' after officers approached a vehicle at about 2 a.m. Saturday on Peter Street.

The victim was Kwasi Skene-Peters, reported CBC News.

He was the subject of a warrant in connection with the killings of two men last month, said The Toronto Star. Those deaths were discovered at the end of a multi-day party in a condo near Queen St. and Dovercourt Rd., according to the outlet.

Skene-Peter was taken to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday, said police.

The SIU has assigned five investigators and four forensic investigators to the case, as well as two subject officers. The SIU investigates when there is a death, serious injury, or allegation of sexual assault involving police.
