Fuel tanker and 3 cars crash, Highway 10 near Granby shut down

A collision on Highway 10 in the Eastern Townships between a fuel tanker and three cars has left at least three people with injuries — some of them life-threatening.

"We don't know exactly how many people were hurt at this point, but some of the victims are fighting for their life," said Gino Paré, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.

The collision happened on the westbound direction of Highway 10, near Granby, at around 6 p.m.

After the crash, the fuel tanker caught fire, but it was quickly extinguished.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Paré said it's not clear what caused the collision.

Reconstruction experts were on the scene Friday evening.

Highway 10 near Granby is expected to be completely closed in both directions possibly until Saturday morning.

The following detours are in place:

- Westbound: take Boulevard Pierre Laporte to Bruce Street, which becomes Simonds Street South. Turn left on Denison Street until the 139.  Turn left on the 139 southbound until you reach the 10 again.

- Eastbound: Take the 139 northbound until Denison westbound. Turn right on Simonds Street, which turns into Bruce Street.  Then turn right on Pierre-Laporte Boulevard towards the 10.
