A Halifax man says he's crossed an item off his bucket list after a one-time stint as a dancer on the Live with Kelly and Michael show last week.

Ryan Williams, originally from East Preston, travelled to New York City with his wife for one last vacation before the birth of their baby. He said they managed to get tickets to a taping of the episode that was scheduled to air July 31.

"It feels good! It's exciting," Williams said.

"It was probably one of the top items on my bucket list, to just be on the Live with Kelly and Michael show. And then to dance as a trivia dancer is just hilarious, but it was so much fun."

During every show, hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan present the Summer Selfie Travel Trivia contest.

The segment features an audience member dancing when the show is on air and during commercial breaks.

"I was a little reluctant at first because I thought it was a bit embarrassing to put up my hand. But all my friends and family said if you get the opportunity to be the trivia dancer on that show, you better take it."

'I told them to come visit'

Williams, a dental products salesman and photographer, said he went through two rounds of auditions judged by the audience before being picked.

"I broke out every move that I could possibly think of — the Running Man, the Harlem Shake, I did a little bit of a moonwalk, side sliding, I did a little Crip Walking, I did the Carlton."

While on air, Kelly and Michael briefly talked to Williams about Halifax. They said they often see the city listed on flight departure boards at the airport.

"Now they know somebody from there, so I told them to come and visit."

Williams said when he was allowed backstage he saw Kevin Bacon and met former Spice Girl Mel B.

"And I didn't even know who it was at first and all of sudden she turned around and I was like, 'Oh! It's Mel B. There you are. Right there in front of me. I dreamt about you all my life and now you're here.'"

Williams and his wife will welcome their baby — a girl — in November.

So will they name her after Kelly?

"You know what? We haven't picked a name yet so it could potentially be in the running."
