Darth Vader Election Sign 'Appears' In Penetanguishene, Ontario

There is a great disturbance in the force of the upcoming Canadian election.

There is a great disturbance in the force of the upcoming Canadian election, according to a parody lawn sign in Ontario.

Reddit user massivecoller was quick to post what appears to be a plastic Darth Vader campaign poster, for the "Your Galactic Empire" party. The sign — which a HuffPost reader identified as being in Penetanguishene, Ont. — also includes the electoral promise of "Together, we can rule the galaxy."

The photograph of the pro-Sith Lord election material went viral almost instantly, with some Redditors attributing its assumed faux political philosophies to that of the Conservative Party of Canada.

"I always knew Darth Vader was a CPC supporter," writes Godspiral. "Not that surprise[d] the CPC has pledged allegiance to him by giving him a running spot."

Legitimate or not, this poster not only surfaces with roughly 64 days to go until the federal election and 123 days before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theatres, and also arrives on the heels of several mock "Star Trek" Liberal party posters, which were spotted in Montreal earlier this week.

I fixed the Liberal campaign posters so their sinister colour palette and creepy straight-on head shots make sense.

According to those modified campaign signs, Klingon High Council chancellor Gowron is gunning for an MP seat in the fictional riding of Qo’nos-Praxis-Verdun.

But the sinister "Star Wars" villain has popped up in election campaigns before, as recently as last October. A Ukrainian parliamentary candidate legally changed his name to Darth Vader, but was denied a chance to vote after he refused to take off his imperial helmet.

Yet, the moniker has also been used for good. Back in July, "Darth Vader" adopted a stretch of highway in Blacksburg, Virginia.

While the Penetanguishene Vader's political policies remain unknown, it's clear the farce is out there.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated the Darth Vader sign sprung up near Midland, Ont. It has been updated to reflect that it is located in Penetanguishene.
