Couple Causes Major Traffic Jam For Worst Proposal Ever

No, you don't need road flares to ask someone to marry you.

When a marriage proposal lands a groom-to-be and his buddies in prison, it definitely is in the running for the worst proposal ever.

An unnamed man and six of his closest friends created a seven-car blockade along Istanbul's D-100 highway on Aug. 8, local news Hurriyet Daily reported.

The reason? The man wanted to surprise his lady love as she was driving along the busy road. And he did. Causing complete gridlock on the highway, the man got out of his car, pulled his girlfriend out of her car and dropped down on one knee to the complete frustration of hundreds of cars trying to figure out what was happening on the road in front of them.

To make matters worse, Jezebel reports the men even lit road flares as fireworks, which undoubtedly caused even more panic and confusion.

Public proposals have only managed to get bigger and bigger since the early days of Jumbotron engagements at baseball games. Nowadays it is not uncommon for a well-planned proposal to go get hundreds of thousands of likes on Facebook or YouTube.

But not everyone's a fan. According to the Daily Beast, 39 per cent of people who rejected a proposal were asked in public. And a 2013 survey from David's Bridal noted that 57 per cent of people admitted they would not appreciate a flash mob proposal.

How do you feel about public proposals? Should they be stopped or should we be celebrating the show of love? Let us know in the comments below.
