Cristiano Ronaldo's New York Apartment Cost Him $18.5 Million

Cristiano Ronaldo Dropped $18.5 Million On This Swanky NYC Condo

Cristiano Ronaldo is a dominant presence on the soccer pitch. So it only makes sense that he would buy a towering apartment to match his stature on the field.

The Real Madrid star has fueled rumours he could play in North America after spending US$18.5 million on a swanky condo in New York's Trump Tower.

The 2,510-sq.-ft. apartment has incredible views of New York landmarks such as Central Park, the Hudson River, as well as the Chrysler Building, Freedom Tower and the Empire State Building.

Chilean-born American interior designer Juan Pablo Molyneux designed the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom unit to creating a "magnificent private residence for the most discerning purchaser."

It has a gallery with koa wood panels; a living room with parquet de Versailles-style flooring; a gourmet kitchen with an eating area that looks over Central Park; and bathrooms with marble and onyx bathtubs.

News of the sale has revived speculation that Ronaldo could play in North America's Major League Soccer (MLS).

Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl reported in March that Ronaldo may play stateside in 2018, once his contract with Real Madrid is up.

New York, Miami and Los Angeles are three cities that interest him, sources told Wahl.
