Mohamed Fahmy Sentence Condemned By Canadian Party Leaders

A display of political unity from Canada's party leaders.

All four major federal party leaders have condemned an Egyptian court's decision to sentence Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy to three years in prison. Fahmy received the news early on Saturday morning.

The Canadian government has been trying to get Fahmy, the Al Jazeera English bureau chief in Cairo, out of an Egyptian jail since his arrest in December 2013. The Canadian government has also been criticized for not being more forceful in its calls to release Fahmy.

The Egyptian decision was also condemned by the U.S. State Department.
