A Canadian Parapan Am Games medallist had her bronze medal stolen from her apartment this week.

Tammy McLeod, 38, of London, Ont. won the medal in team boccia last month in Toronto.

"I am so sad and heartbroken about this," McLeod said in a Facebook post about the theft of the medal and the special leather Roots pouch that holds it.

Police say someone broke into McLeod's apartment on Friday, Aug. 28 and stole a number of items, including the medal and a Diamond Jubilee medal — one of just 60,000 handed out to Canadians to honour significant achievements.

The Parapan Am medal is specially designed with Braille and made of Chilean copper.

London police are urging anyone who sees the medal or who has information about who may have taken it to come forward.
