EDMONTON — A 50-year-old teacher is facing several sexual assault charges for an alleged sexual relationship with a student.

Edmonton police allege the relationship began in 2012 when the girl was 13 years old and continued for two more years.

Police spokesman Scott Pattison says they were contacted by the girl's parents.

Pattison couldn’t state for sure whether the teacher was still employed as a teacher, but said it’s unlikely.

He’d also only say that the teacher was employed at a south Edmonton school.

The teacher is facing charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and luring.
