Thanksgiving Canada 2016: Why It's Great To Celebrate The Holiday In October

09/23/2015 10:42 EDT | Updated 10/04/2016 12:36 EDT

Thanksgiving happens in Canada on Oct. 10.

It's a chance for Canadians to come together, reconnect with family ... and say "na na na" to our American friends, because we get to eat first.

But why is it so great to have Thanksgiving early, rather than in November? We can think of a few reasons.

Here are eight reasons why Thanksgiving in October is awesome:

A day off comes early.

You can go away for the weekend ...

When it looks like this outdoors.

There's no football game to distract you ...

Though you COULD watch the CFL Thanksgiving Day Classic. If you wanted to.

And you can eat Halloween treats for dessert.

Because the scary day is just a few weeks away.

It's still a couple months before Christmas.

And there's plenty of time to work off your dinner in preparation for another turkey.

Happy early Thanksgiving everyone!
