Magic Johnson Brought Up The Blue Jays At We Day And Got Booed (But It's All Good)

(But it's all good).

Earvin "Magic" Johnson knew full well he was in Jays' territory when he stepped onto the We Day stage in Toronto Thursday.

The NBA legend was met with wild cheers from the 20,000 strong crowd of students from across Canada who were at We Day to celebrate the thousands of hours of volunteer service they'd completed in the last year as part of the Me To We program. And to be fair, he did have lots of great things to say about the Toronto Blue Jays, newly crowned AL East champions.

"Any Blue Jays fans in the house?" Johnson asked to roars of approval. "If you are a Blue Jays fan, stand on your feet right now!"

Johnson then used the baseball team as an allegory for the power of teamwork. "The Blue Jays have to work together as a team, and that's how they won their division," he said. He told the students teamwork was essential for changing the world.

"We have to work together to provide... for all those people around the world."

But then he flipped the topic back to the Jays, and Johnson, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, went there.

"I hope that my Dodgers beat your Blue Jays in the World Series!"

Boos rained down from the Jays' hometown crowd. And can you blame them? Johnson didn't at all; he knew what he was doing. So he roused the crowd with a request, "All Raptors fans, all Maple Leafs fans, all Blue Jays fans, get up on your feet right now!"

And everyone did, and all was forgiven. Like Magic.
