Employees playing hooky to watch the Jays game? Don't worry, Hays has you covered, boss.
With the Jays' first couple of playoff games scheduled for the middle of the workday, fans are contemplating how to get out of work to support their team.
"I'm going to try to get out of work somehow," Josh Elijah told The Canadian Press, adding that he hoped his boss would be sympathetic. "I want to be with my friends to watch the game. This is the moment, this is the time all Blue Jays fans have been waiting for."
In response to all the expected short-notice vacations and "sick days," the recruiting firm Hays Canada sent this email to clients:
"Most people who want to attend or watch the game have booked off the time in advance," Rowan O’Grady, Hays Canada President, told The Huffington Post Canada in an email. "However, that could still leave some teams short today and tomorrow – that’s why Hays decided to let our clients know that we’re here for them."
For employees who've caught Blue Jays fever, some companies are setting up TVs or webstreams in common spaces, and showing flexibility for individual time-off requests.
Or companies can go to the extreme and give workers a four-day weekend to cheer the Jays like Canadian Tire did.
So go ahead, call in sick to watch the game! (We won't tell. Promise.) They'll find someone to cover you.
