Richmond, B.C. Home Invasion Attempt Video Released By RCMP

The homeowner opened the door and quickly slammed it shut.

RCMP in B.C. have released video surveillance of masked and armed suspects who tried to force their way into a Richmond home.

Two young men knocked on the front door of the house in the 4000 block of Blair Drive on the night of Oct. 6, while two other suspects were waiting around the corner. One was armed with what appears to be a shot gun and the other with an apparent assault rifle, according to RCMP.

The homeowner opened the door and realized quickly something was wrong, and slammed the door, said Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a news release.

The footage released in two surveillance videos shows one of the armed suspects almost tripping as he tries to get into the front door. His accomplice also almost falls as the pair run away from the failed attack.

"The potential for serious injury was real and we are very concerned," said Hwang.

A 19-year-old woman told The Vancouver Sun that she was the person who opened the door to the home, where her boyfriend and his mother live. She accused the police of not taking the case seriously.

The woman said she, her toddler niece, her 29-year-old boyfriend, and his young daughter were in the house at the time.

Investigators don't believe the attempt was random, but the woman told the Sun that she and her boyfriend don't have criminal links and don't know why they would be targets.

Police said the suspects were all wearing grey or light-coloured hoodies and sweat pants. Two were wearing light-coloured caps and face masks.

One man is described as white with dark brown straight hair in his late teens or early 20s. He is possibly 5'10" or taller.
