Calgary Police Arrest Man While His Dog Bites Them (VIDEO)

Bystanders had to step in to help.

Passersby had to step in to help some Calgary police officers who were being attacked by a suspect's dog.

A YouTube video posted to Calgary resident Crackmacs' channel shows a chaotic scene downtown as two officers were trying to restrain a man who was resisting arrest.

The suspect's dog is seen barking at the police — and then biting the female officer's arm and the male officer's leg.

Two brave passerby show up partway through the video and calm the dog down. One grabs the animal's leash, while the other attempts to distract it from the owner's predicament.

Calgary police Sgt. Katrina O'Reilly said the force wanted to thank both the person who shared the video with them, as well as the bystanders stepping in to help.

The officers were not injured, she added.

The man was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a police officer, said O'Reilly.

Calgary police noted in the comments on the video that "the dog was transported to the District Office as was the offender. The dog hung out with the officers while they completed paperwork and it was released to the owner when he was released on a promise to appear."
