Karolina Żebrowska Gives Us A Realistic Look Into 'Beauty Through The Decades'

It's time for a realistic view into "100 years" of beauty.

Tired of the same old glamourized "100 years" videos always popping up across the world wide web? Well, this makeup guru is shining a new light on the dark reality of beauty across the years.

Karolina Żebrowska, the woman behind the costume blog Domowa Kostiumologia, felt those historical fashion and beauty videos were an inaccurate representation of how real women in the 20th century lived. So the Polish blogger took matters into her own hands, creating her own "Beauty Through The Decades" video.

"As a person interested in the history of fashion and beauty it really bugged me how inaccurate some of these [videos] are," Żebrowska wrote on her blog. "The beauty standards they show are almost always our contemporary stereotypes of the past decades; for example, when it comes to the 1920s, it almost always is a partying, shiny flapper girl; when it comes to the 1950s, we always get pin-up. Not to mention that earlier eras (19th or 18th century) are rarely depicting truly historical beauty and fashion standards rather than creators' imagination. I was always upset about it and planned my own version."

In the video, Karolina showcases a number of women -- female factory workers of the 1900s, women who battled the Great Depression in the '30s, 1940 World War II nurses and suffragettes. The film student also made it a priority to educate the viewers with an accompanying fact alongside each historical beauty glimpse.

When she first thought of the video idea, Żebrowska, "wanted to compare stereotypical beauty standards in history with the image that was truly popular in particular decades." But when doing research for the project, she realized something about "100 years" videos: "All of these videos concentrate on the ideals of beauty, and there's none focusing on reality!"

In an interview with Refinery29, the blogger said that she wanted to "commemorate those that are so often forgotten, and in some way, pay a tribute to [those] women."
