In September 1995, 47,000 women activists and leaders from 189 countries united in Beijing to discuss women's rights issues at the Fourth World Conference on Women -- the largest international gathering of women ever.
It was at the conference that Hillary Rodham Clinton, First Lady of the United States at the time, delivered her iconic women's rights speech, declaring: "If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women's rights, and women's rights are human rights, once and for all."
Twenty years later, MAKERS has retraced the suspenseful months leading up to that historic gathering and Clinton's influential speech in their first, feature-length documentary, "MAKERS: Once And For All."

"The more we learned about it, the more we saw that this was an enthralling and under-appreciated story, full of suspense, triumph and great relevance to today's world," Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and co-director of the film, Dyllan McGee explained in an interview with Women and Hollywood. "The fact that this year marked the 20th anniversary made it an opportune time to bring it to life."
The documentary features archival footage from the conference, as well as original interviews with women who participated in the event, including Clinton herself, who explains why her famous address almost didn't happen. The film also examines the impact of the conference, how far we've come, and the work that's left to be done in achieving gender equality.
