The holiday season is finally here, which means Christmas is just around the corner. While kids are no doubt looking forward to snow and presents, nothing beats the excitement of Christmas break.

So when does Christmas break start? According to the Canadian Education Association, every school district sets its own dates, but the majority of kids will be off starting on December 18 and they will return to class on January 4, 2016.

Be sure to check your kids’ school calendars as some schools close earlier on December 17, such as Alberta's Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education.

Others close a little later on December 22, including Quebec's Commission scolaire des Hautes Rivières and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District .

Some kids will be return to school a little later in January, too. Classes in Saskatchewan's Prairie Valley School Division No. 208 start again on January 5, 2016, for example, and Quebec's Eastern Townships School Board opens up on January 7.

The school boards with the shortest break seems to be in P.E.I. where schools close on Dec. 22 and re-open on January 4.

You can refer to this handy chart to check the dates of your kids’ school district.
