Meaghan Blanchard's 'I'm Not Ready To Scrape Ice' Will Have You Singing Into Winter

"It's too late to book a flight .. I probably would if I could .."

P.E.I. native Meaghan Blanchard knows a thing or two about tough winters — after all, last year Charlottetown saw a record-breaking 549.6 cm of snow accumulation from November to April.

And the singer-songwriter has put all of those feelings into one fantastic song that speaks to exactly what many Canadians are feeling right about now, "I'm Not Ready To Scrape Ice."

Set to the Dixie Chicks' "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice," Blanchard evokes that exact moment when the temperature starts dropping, the salt starts appearing at the front of grocery stores, but the deep freeze (and the reluctant acceptance that comes with it) hasn't yet hit you.

"Everyone has been feeling this way but none of us want to talk about it because we're all so devastated from last winter," Blanchard tells The Huffington Post Canada.

"The night I wrote that song was the first time the snow had come down, and I had to go search for my scraper. I remember actually saying out loud into the night, 'I am not ready to scrape ice.'"

She went right inside, didn't even take off her coat, and composed the little ditty for family and friends, not knowing the chord it would strike with fellow Canadians.

She even got a shout-out from the original writers of the song themselves (who, being from Texas, likely aren't quite as familiar with the pains of winter):

Just see if you don't find yourself singing the tune as you scrape away at that wretched ice that you know is coming soon.
