Mark Zuckerberg Baby Girl: Facebook CEO Marks Daughter's Arrival With Massive Donation

The Facebook CEO is giving away billions.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan welcomed their baby girl Max into the world and with her arrival, the couple made a major announcement.

On Tuesday, the couple revealed that they will be giving away 99 per cent of their Facebook shares to charity throughout their lifetime so that they can make the world a better place for their daughter.

“We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, but also because we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation,” the couple wrote in an open letter to their baby girl.

Specifically, Zuckerberg and Chan want to focus on advancing human potential and promoting equality by curing diseases, personalizing learning and reducing poverty, among other things.

“We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about $45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission," the couple said. "We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.”

While details of the donation are still to come, it appears the Facebook CEO and his wife will be working to promote the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which was first launched in 2009.

The organization focuses on “personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.”
